It was so big that a telehandler was needed to winch it onto scales at a country show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twin brothers Ian and Stuart Paton, 63, spent three hours a day for three months cultivating the gigantic 188 stone (1198.2kg) squash in Lymington Hamps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They then \u201cvery carefully\u201d drove four and a half hours to the Malvern Autumn Show today (Thursday) in a bid to crown it the \u201cworld\u2019s heaviest pumpkin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, they fell just short of the world record of 1,247kg but were delighted to set a new British record with their creation, weighing the same as a small car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Green-fingered Ian said: \u201cIt has taken a lot of hard work and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMe and my twin brother work as a team and we spent three hours a day over three months tending to it each day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250104210420im_\/https:\/\/wpcdn.zenger.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/28152520\/4750fcc8-773f-41b5-b720-bc6d38ef49a1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-228427\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Twin brothers Ian and Stuart Paton, 63, spent three hours a day for three months cultivating the gigantic 188 stone (1198.2kg) squash in Lymington Hamps. They are quite fast-growing, and this one is 113 days old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe drove it up in the back of a large Volvo very carefully, staying at around 50mph. You get some strange looks from other drivers, that\u2019s for sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome people pull over further up the road and then follow you again just to get another look. They shout \u2018is that real?\u2019 and we shout back\u2019 yep\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNobody is going to be heavier than this today, I\u2019m very confident of that. The sponsors of the show are going to carve it up at the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey have a professional pumpkin carver. I\u2019ve been told what they are going to turn it into, but I\u2019m sworn to secrecy.
